Meet Rich Walker

My college career at Rutgers University ranged from 1991-1996.  As President of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, I developed budgets, managed philanthropy efforts and executed a variety of both Greek and Collegiate campus events.  While balancing my leadership roles and educational commitments, I also worked full-time at a local nationwide retailer. I began as a general level customer service representative and worked my way up to Human Resources Manager over a short time period. It was also during my collegiate career, that I met my wife Catherine in 1993.

I immediately launched my entrepreneurial business career with a fellow classmate and fraternity brother. It has been nearly a quarter of a century since I have become a proud business owner, and acting COO of Bergen Sign Company. I am proud to boast that we have generated a myriad of job opportunities for individuals in both North Jersey and South Florida, as our business experienced significant growth and expanded to a successful second office in 2009. Under this industry scope, I have also actively represented local sign contractors in various mandatory union negotiations over the past decade.

Catherine and I wed in 2001 and welcomed our first child, a daughter, Delaney in 2003.  Our second daughter, Steffy James arrived in 2006, followed by our first son Scott in 2008. Our second son Drake was born in 2010. Finally, in 2014 we welcome our “tie breaker”, affectionately known as Happy Hayes.

As a father of five young children, I have always actively been involved in their academic, athletic and recreational activities. I have proudly coached a variety of teams, in a wide variety of sports. These range from soccer, softball, flag football, baseball and wrestling. I have embraced leadership roles in a variety of athletic community boards both in Rockaway, NJ and now Parkland, FL.  I am currently serving leadership roles on both Parkland Soccer Association and Parkland Little League Board. I embrace each and every opportunity to dedicate my time to this community.

Catherine and I have always engaged in a variety of Philanthropic Groups and Activities both serving as acting advisors for our respective sorority and fraternities. I am currently serving as Housing Corp President for Phi Kappa Psi at Rutgers University. Together as a family, we have actively embraced a variety of fundraising campaigns, ranging across the board from Girl Scout Events, PTA Activities, School Board Events, Community Outreach (A post-hurricane supply drive during the devastating hurricane Sandy in NJ), a successful campaign with COTA to raise funds for a family friend and their young son’s desperate need for a new kidney and a variety of local south florida community outreach events as “Santa and Mrs. Claus” with a few of our own elves! You can easily find us at a local breakfast for foster children or the homeless!

I began another entrepreneurial adventure as an owner of American Beverage Technologies back in 2012. ABT services and installs water filtration systems. I started this company from the ground up in NJ and continue to operate today. We currently have 5 employees.

I have had the pleasure to serve the City of Parkland as City Commissioner since 2018. I first ran for City Commissioner in 2018 because I wanted to invest in our city’s future. I’ve loved Parkland ever since I moved here, and I’m proud to stand by your side as we move forward together.
